CMCP Counsel Connect

Session Details:

January 21, 2021

2:30pm – 4:30pm

CMCP Counsel Connect creates an opportunity for in-house counsel legal departments and counsel from law firms practicing in the same area of substantive law to meet in small groups to discuss their practice area and examine efforts to drive diversity in the legal sector.

Legal departments attorneys will be assigned a discussion groups in their respective practice area (2 legal department attorneys from the same or different companies per group.) CMCP will match (see Matching) law firm attorneys in the same practice area (maximum 2 law firm attorneys per firm.)

Each group will discuss one practice area including two (2) legal department attorneys and six (6) law firm attorneys for a discussion group of 8 total participants per practice area (practice areas may have multiple discussion groups.)

The practice area group discussion will begin with in-house counsel providing a brief description of their business needs and outside counsel hiring practices, followed by brief introductions from outside counsel on their expertise.  The group discussion will move to an open conversation on business and diversity, that may explore:

  • Diversity of attorneys in the practice area and how legal departments and law firms are addressing the challenges
  • Impact of the pandemic and economy on the practice area, and
  • How outside counsel can best service clients and how clients can most effectively utilize outside counsel.

After a brief break, the second round of practice area groups will meet followed by a debrief of all group participants. CMCP will designate a facilitator for each table group and provide a discussion outline. All participants will convene for a debrief.

This unique opportunity to speak with practice area peers and discuss diversity offers a valuable program to kick-off 2021.
