What CMCP Is
For over 35 years, the California Minority Counsel Program (CMCP) has connected law firms, corporate legal departments, and attorneys to build relationships that benefit both individual careers and the broader legal profession. Through high-quality programming, networking events, and mentorship initiatives, CMCP builds a strong community that creates meaningful opportunities for professional growth and client development. CMCP supports its members by:
- Expanding Business Opportunities – Connecting attorneys with decision-makers in corporations and law firms.
- Providing Professional Development – Offering leadership training, networking, and mentoring to help attorneys succeed.
- Fostering a More Inclusive Legal Market – Helping organizations access top-tier talent and innovative perspectives to enhance legal service delivery.
- Strengthening Legal Excellence – Promoting the exchange of ideas and best practices that drive innovation and success.
- Building a Strong Community – Creating space for authentic connection, collaboration, and shared purpose among attorneys committed to advancing opportunity in the legal profession.
What CMCP Is Not
- CMCP is not a political organization. Our mission is to strengthen the legal profession through inclusion and opportunity, without engaging in partisan politics.
- CMCP is not an organization that restricts membership by race or gender. CMCP membership is available to any attorney working for a CMCP member organization.
- CMCP is not an advocacy group. While we champion inclusion as a business and professional asset, we do not engage in lobbying or policy activism.
Why CMCP Membership and Sponsorship Matters
Amid shifting legal and political landscapes, participation in CMCP offers law firms and corporate legal departments a clear, business-driven approach to strengthening their teams and client relationships:
- Talent Retention & Engagement: Lawyers of all backgrounds thrive in workplaces that value inclusion and professional growth.
- Business Development: CMCP’s events and initiatives facilitate direct connections between corporate legal departments and law firms, leading to new business opportunities.
- Leadership Development: Investing in attorneys fosters leadership pipelines that improve representation at all levels of the profession.
- Stronger Client Relationships: Many clients prioritize creative teams and inclusive legal strategies. CMCP membership demonstrates a commitment to excellence and innovation.
- Community: CMCP fosters an environment in which attorneys of all backgrounds can find community, develop relationships, and share opportunities for personal and professional development.
- Early Career Development and Support: Through CMCP’s Ambassadors Council, early to mid-career attorneys have access to mentorship and training opportunities that range from pitching clients, to navigating a legal department to identifying sponsors that will support them as they advance in their legal careers.
