Welcome to the California Minority Counsel Program!
CMCP emerged in 1989 in response to the disparity between the percentage of minorities in California’s population and legal profession. Since then, it has been dedicated to the promotion and sustainability of diversity and inclusion in California’s legal profession.
CMCP achieves this through developing professional opportunities for attorneys of color and providing business, legal and lay communities access to their talent. Its membership, steadfastly dedicated to the CMCP mission, is comprised of Fortune 500 corporations, AM Law 100 majority law firms, minority-owned law firms and public agencies and other affiliates in the profession.
It is CMCP's firm belief that diversity and legal talent are not mutually exclusive. Instead, the legal community and the industries it serves benefit greatly from California's rich and diverse community of legal practictioners. As such, CMCP envisions a legal profession wherein race and ethnicity are no longer factors impeding opportunities for professional entry and advancement in the legal profession.
During its existence, CMCP has been recognized for its leadership and work by publications such as The Recorder, The Daily Journal, and Diversity & The Bar and industry leaders such as the California State Bar (Diversity Award Recipient) and the Minority Corporate Counsel Association (MCCA).
We invite you to learn more about our organization and join us in the furtherance of our mission!
