The San Francisco office of Constangy, Brooks, Smith & Prophete, LLP is seeking to hire a part-time Legal Clerk. This position will work with Partners, Associates, and staff members to draft basic legal documents, research case law, ensure retention of legal documents within the firm’s document management system, help organize files, and completing other tasks as needed.

We’re a growing office, with a fast-paced and high capacity workload. You’ll be exposed to various cases like administrative charges, single plaintiff discrimination litigation, and wage and hour class actions. Position Details:

This is a part-time commitment for the duration of summer 2021, but can continue as part-time employment indefinitely beyond summer 2021.
This position can work remotely to begin, and will transition back to in-office work over the course of summer 2021 alongside other members of the San Francisco office.
Work schedule is flexible based on availability during business hours (9am – 6pm).
Compensation will be $20/hour, with partial commute reimbursement. The work week can range from 20 to 30 hours, depending on the office’s needs.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Conduct legal research on a variety of employment topics, including new cases and laws in California, case law research for upcoming motions and responses, and complete writing assignments to support attorneys as needed.
Draft basic discovery and pleading documents, including separate statements, discovery requests and responses, etc., under the supervision and direction of partners and senior associates.
Assist in document production, including document review, redaction, bates labeling, etc.
Prepare Excel spreadsheets summarizing case data.
Assist in administrative investigations, such as the DFEH and EEOC, by gathering documents, information, and building chronologies.
Miscellaneous clerical tasks, such as scanning, photocopying, preparing case/mediation/deposition binders and folders for attorneys.
Periodically update the San Francisco master case list, arbitration tracking list, and California class/PAGA list with any updates as submitted by the office manager and legal assistants.
Assist the Office Manager with general office maintenance.
Complete any and all other tasks and special assignments as requested.

Requirements and Qualifications:

Possess a strong desire to study and/or practice Labor & Employment Law.
Currently be enrolled in an ABA-accredited law school pursuing a Juris Doctorate.
Bilingual in English and a second language is a preference, but not required.
Strong proofreading, attention to detail, and grammar skills.
Must maintain the confidentiality of all client information.
Must be able to lift and carry boxes weighing 20 or more pounds (lbs).
Basic knowledge of office computer programs like Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel) and Adobe Acrobat or Nuance PDF with a willingness to learn new programs.
