Lyft, Inc.

Position Summary:

Lyft is looking for a bright, pragmatic, and self-motivated employment attorney with 4+ years of employment counseling and litigation experience to join our growing Legal team. You will leverage your prior law firm and/or in-house experience to provide thoughtful, timely, practical and business-minded legal advice primarily to the 180+ professionals on Lyft’s People Team. Prior in-house or seconded technology company experience is preferred but not required.

Duties and Responsibilities:

-Provide pragmatic day-to-day employment advice and counseling to members of the People Team in order to unblock business needs and appropriately balance achievement of business objectives against legal risk
-Audit wage and hour practices to ensure compliance with the FLSA, the California Labor Code, and state laws around the country, including with respect to exempt/non-exempt classification, worker/independent contractor classification, administration of compensation programs, and timekeeping and payroll practices
-Partner closely with Lyft’s Employee Relations professionals on employee complaints and investigations
-Collaborate with other members of the Employment Team and Employee Relations team to review and/or develop and implement scalable employment policies, practices, and programs
-Develop and deliver training to managers and employees — candidates must be comfortable with public speaking
-Investigate pre-litigation and litigation matters and develop and implement strategies for early resolution (as appropriate), including with respect to agency charges (DLSE, DFEH, EEOC, DOL, OSHA, etc.)
-Monitor important developments in employment law in jurisdictions across the country, striving to spot trends in their infancy
-Work and build trust with cross-functional partners from teams across the Legal Department and the Company
-Work closely with and manage outside counsel in connection with litigation matters, including discovery, motion practice, witness preparation, and trial strategies
-Travel from time-to-time as necessary to service internal clients; develop cross-office relationships; and attend legal proceedings/negotiations
