
Valley Water, Santa Clara County
The Santa Clara Valley Water District (Valley Water) is the primary water resources agency for the county.
Position Summary:
A seven-member Board of Directors governs Valley Water. The District Counsel reports directly to the Board and oversees approximately 11.5 FTEs in the District Counsel’s office (FY 2020-21 budget, $4.1 million) and the risk management ($2.5 million) and workers compensation ($865,000) units.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Executive management experience, including advising elected officials and working in a political environment, is preferred. Knowledge of law and principles related to flood protection, water resource management, modern water law, and state and local water history is desirable.
Qualifications:
Must be a current member, in good standing, of the California State Bar Association. A minimum of eight years of recent experience in the active practice of law in the State of California, including at least five years of progressively responsible experience in public agency/ municipal law, and including two spent supervising management, professional, and paraprofessional staff, is required, although equivalent experience will be considered.
