The Office of the Public Defender is recruiting for Deputy Public Defenders I, II, III & IV. These positions offer an exciting opportunity in criminal trial work. Incumbents represent indigent defendants and provide skilled legal counsel and courtroom advocacy at all critical phases of state level criminal and civil commitment litigation.
Deputy Public Defender I: Active membership and in good standing with the State Bar of California.
Note: Applicants awaiting results of the July 2019 California Bar Examination may apply. State Bar membership must be attained in order to be hired.
Deputy Public Defender II: Active membership and in good standing with the State Bar of California. AND two (2) years of criminal trial experience as an attorney.
Deputy Public Defender III: Active membership and in good standing with the State Bar of California AND three (3) years of criminal trial experience as an attorney.
Deputy Public Defender IV: Active membership and in good standing with the State Bar of California AND five (5) years of criminal trial experience as an attorney
