Duties and Responsibilities

The State Bar of California is a public corporation within the judicial branch of government that regulates California lawyers to protect the public and seeks to enhance the administration of justice for all citizens. The Office of General Counsel (OGC) employs the in-house attorneys to the State Bar. The legal work includes advice to and representation of the State Bar Board of Trustees, committees and staff in administrative and civil trial and appellate litigation and transactional work in substantive areas such as: Bar discipline and admissions; labor and employment; copyright; bankruptcy; real estate; contracts; regulatory work; governance; public records and open meeting laws; and general corporate matters.

We seek an attorney with knowledge of and experience in transactional work. Transactional experience should include drafting, negotiating and providing advice on contracts for goods and services. Transactional experience from within a state or public agency is preferred, but not required. The attorney will mainly handle transactional work but will also handle other work of OGC, as needed.
