Call for participation as a trial judge for the Western Regional Competition, which will be held January 3-7 in San Francisco, California.
Thurgood Marshall Mock Trial Competition (TMMTC)
The TMMTC is a national competition sponsored by the National Black Law Students Association (NBLSA) and is one of the most respected mock trial competitions in the country. Each year, six regional competitions occur across the country. The top 3 teams from each region advance to the national finals.
We ask that each judge commit to spending four to five hours at the competition. TMMTC teams are composed of four students. During each round two team members will be lawyers while the other two will serve as witnesses. The entire round has a time limit of 70 minutes. Judges are asked to rule on pretrial motions and objections made during the trial. Judges will also score the competitors and provide feedback to the teams at the conclusion of the round. Each judge will be provided with a copy of the case and a summary of the problem well before the competition.
One of the major goals of the TMMTC is to help students develop strong courtroom skills as they prepare to step into the legal community. I sincerely hope you will accept this invitation, and respectfully ask that you circulate this opportunity. If you or someone you know would like to volunteer as a judge please e-mail wrblsa.northwest@nblsa.org to indicate your day and time preference.

Frederick Douglass Moot Court Competition (FDMCC)
The FDMCC is a national competition sponsored by the National Black Law Students Association (NBLSA) and has been a vital part of NBLSA’s programming since 1975. Each year, six regional competitions occur across the country. The top 3 teams from each region advance to the national finals.
We ask that each judge commit to spending four to five hours at the competition. FDMCC teams are composed of two students who write briefs arguing on behalf of petition and respondent, then simulate an appellate oral argument proceeding. Judges will also score the competitors and provide feedback to the teams at the conclusion of the round. Each judge will be provided with a copy of the case and a summary of the problem well before the competition.
One of the major goals of the FDMCC is to help students develop strong advocacy skills as they prepare to step into the legal community. I sincerely hope you will accept this invitation, and respectfully ask that you circulate this opportunity. If you or someone you know would like to volunteer as a judge please e-mail wrblsa.northwest@nblsa.org to indicate your day and time preference.
