CMCP 2010 Subcommittee DescriptionsWe appreciate your interest in getting more involved with CMCP. One of the best ways to do so is to work on one of our program subcommittees to help us advance our mission. Working on a subcommittee also gives you the opportunity to get to know your fellow members. Please feel free to contact the Chairs of the respective Committees to participate. Annual Conference Committee
This committee is responsible for CMCP’s signature event. Duties include chairing roundtable panels and recruiting appropriate speakers, soliciting sponsors and corporate participants for “Corporate Connections”, and helping to publicize the conference to the legal press and potential attendees. Primary time commitments: The conference takes place in September or October. This committee begins meeting in early spring to finalize the conference agenda. During the spring and summer, committee members choose and meet with their speaker panelists for the roundtables, and solicit conference sponsorships and corporate participation in Corporate Connections. The conference committee meets every other week in the month preceding the conference. Community Outreach
This committee's primary function is to identify, evaluate, and develop opportunities for our members to mentor economically disadvantaged students and expose them to professional careers. In addition, the Committee has undertaken the development and launch of a mentoring program in which CMCP members, advanced in their practice areas, can serve as mentors to other members interested in mentorship. The Committee will also identify potential grant funding sources for this work. Primary time commitments: This committee meets monthly and will have at least 2 events for youth to meet with our members as well as several mentoring program events throughout the year. E-Newsletter Committee
This committee is responsible for finding and/or creating articles of interest to our members for the CMCP E-newsletter that it sent to over 6,000 members each month. The committee meets only as needed, and most communication is by email. Event/Program Committee
The responsibilities of this committee are to identify, create and plan CMCP membership programs. In addition to the Annual Conference (separate committee), CMCP hosts as well as co-sponsors approximately 5 programs annually. Past programs include: Call and Response to Diversity, Pathways to Partnership, Minority-Owned Law Firm Business Development Roundtable. Members on the committee will chair roundtable panels and recruit appropriate speakers and sponsors. Primary time commitments: The committee meets monthly and may meet more often preceding a particular program. Recruitment and Membership
This committee is responsible for marketing CMCP to prospective new members (Majority Owned Firms, Minority Owned Firms, Corporations and Individuals) as well as existing members. This is done through outreach and personal solicitation. The committee is also responsible for fostering relationships with other similarly oriented organizations and forging strategic new relationships. This committee works closely with the Events/Program Committee to help plan and attend outreach events and the Annual Conference Committee to recruit attendees and participation in Corporate Connections. Primary time commitments: This committee has monthly meetings (via telephone) and an ongoing drive for recruitment throughout the year. Thought Leadership Committee
Furthering CMCP's mission of diversity in the profession, the "Thought Leadership Committee" will analyze diversity and other organizational practices at every level of the profession, from law schools to law departments to law firms, in an effort to understand why certain practices are successful and others are not. The goal of the group is to develop and publicize a body of work that will assist the profession in taking existing diversity efforts to the next level of success. |
