"CMCP is California’s leading non-profit organization promoting diversity in the legal profession. Marci brings to CMCP a combination of strong leadership and management experience, a life-long commitment to diversity, substantial experience in the non-profit world, and most important, passion and vision," said Board Co-Chair Deborah Broyles. Board Co-Chair James Nguyen added, "CMCP’s Board of Directors is thrilled to have Marci in this new leadership role. We look forward to working with her to make CMCP an even stronger voice for diversity and to provide even greater value to our members.”
Marci is a former Wells Fargo Deputy General Counsel, where she managed the company’s commercial lending legal work and was an active participant in both the corporate and Law Department’s diversity commitments and activities. She has been a supporter of CMCP since its inception and served many years as a CMCP Board Member. Among her many other activities, Marci is Emeritus Board Member and past Board Chair of Equal Rights Advocates, a San Francisco legal non-profit committed to protecting and securing equal rights and economic opportunities for women and girls through litigation and advocacy, and current Board Chair of the Freight & Salvage Coffeehouse in Berkeley, a non-profit arts organization dedicated to promoting public awareness and understanding of traditional music.
When asked about her new role, Marci responded: "I’m thrilled and honored to have this opportunity to serve CMCP as Executive Director during this growth period for the organization, and especially to work with CMCP’s talented and dedicated Staff and Board to make 2010 a banner year for the organization by expanding the ways in which we bring value to our members. To that end, I also look forward to meeting with our members and volunteers and hearing their thoughts.”
“CMCP’s diversity mission and values are those by which I’ve tried to live my life. To me they’re an extension of the values reflected by ERA and the Freight -- both organizations deeply committed to equal opportunity, one in the legal justice arena promoting equality for women, and the other in the arts arena promoting and educating the community on the music of all the cultural and ethnic traditions of the greater Bay Area. As a lawyer, my renewed involvement with CMCP brings me back into an arena where diversity is of immense importance -- our legal justice system which, by virtue of the critical role it plays in our society, should be society’s diversity leader.” |
